Our Story & Philosophy

How it all started

Accept was born on the Delhi Metro—quite literally between stations. What began as long, meandering conversations between two M.Phil. trainees turned into a shared vision: to do our part in moving mental health from the margins and weaving it into the fabric of everyday lives.

The conversations ranged from clinical curiosity to messy, human reflection (they also included missing a station or two). Somewhere between lectures, case discussions, and endless metro rides, we found ourselves circling back to the same questions: What would it mean to create a therapeutic space that’s  safe, accessible, human, and just the right amount of hopeful?

In a surprising turn of events, what started off as a distant vision for the future, became the anchor we came back to during the pandemic. When the world stopped, we breathed life into Accept.

If you like stories about fate, call it serendipity. If you prefer accuracy, this was a culmination of many (more!) long conversations, an uncanny match of beliefs and the deliberate choice to future-proof a friendship.

Why we did it

We kept noticing the subtle undertones of mental health in the everyday—small tensions, culture-shaped silences, the “this-is-just-life” moments that quietly add up. Those moments are everywhere: in conversations, at the workplace, family rituals, and the things people dismiss as unimportant. We wanted to make those threads visible and vocal.

Therapy, for us, is about meaningful growth—not a passing trend or an overnight ‘fix’. It’s to make seeking support less complicated, less awkward, and frankly, less bureaucratic.

What we stand for

We believe therapy works best when it’s co-created. Our philosophy is:

  • Client-led: You decide how you want to engage—with choice of therapist and pace.

  • Inclusive & affirmative: We welcome differences and centre respect.

  • Fairness & transparency: Fees, limits and referrals are spoken about plainly. Accessibility-first. We cut through the hunting, booking, and payment pain points so getting help doesn’t feel like a second job.

  • Curious and grounded: We keep questioning, learning and remain open to being wrong.

  • Ethically rooted: We are honest about what we can and cannot do. When a client’s needs exceed our scope—whether due to clinical complexity, logistical constraints, or cultural fit, we’ll help you find someone who can.

Who we work with

We keep culture, family systems, language, and migration in mind because those factors change how people show up in therapy and what feels useful.

Our core communities include:

  • Residing Indians,

  • South Asian diaspora, and

  • Communities and ethnicities subject to culture-sensitive considerations

How we work (with you — and with each other)

With clients: therapy is a collaboration. We offer a free initial consultation because fit matters. That session is a chance to see what therapy feels like with us.

Within the team, we nurture an environment where learning and growth go hand in hand with laughter, rest and respect for what each of us can hold at any given point in time.

We meet regularly for clinical supervision and reflective practice. We question ourselves, consult the literature, and learn from each other’s lenses. This keeps our work safe, thoughtful, and less likely to get stuck in blind spots.

Money & care – how
we talk about fees

Money is part of the story. We don’t treat it as an awkward footnote. Here’s how we think about it:

  • Choosing therapy is a meaningful investment in yourself. We want you to feel that choice as something intentional.

  • Our fees reflect not just the time spent in session but also years of training and experience, emotional labor, and the ongoing learning we bring to the work.

  • We believe in fairness and accessibility, while keeping in mind that accessibility looks different for everyone. We try to balance both sides with transparency and care.

Money isn’t neutral. It carries structural, cultural, and emotional meanings, and those often show up in therapy. We welcome conversations about cost as part of the work.

Where we hope
to go next

We dream of expanding Accept into more than just a therapy service. Over time, we hope to actively build toward group and community outreach programs and collaborations with different stakeholders with the ongoing aim of keeping mental health at the forefront of conversations.

Until then, we’ll keep doing what we do best: listening, reflecting, laughing where we can, and missing fewer metro stations.
